WATCH: Duke v. Notre Dame Preview

The Blue Devils advanced to the 2016 NY Life Men's Basketball Tournament quarters to take on the Irish, who beat them in last year's ACC semis. Mike Gminski and Tim Brant of the ACC Network explain how Duke will need to slow ND down as they dropped 90 points on them in an earlier season tilt.

Fresh off a high scoring, free-flowing win over NC State, the Blue Devils will return to action on Thursday against Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Tournament.

A season ago the Irish smothered Duke in the semifinals of the ACC Tournament, beating the Blue Devils 74-64 to advance to the championship round where they eventually beat North Carolina.  It was the third win in four games for the Irish against Duke, and that streak was extended to four wins in five earlier this year when the teams met in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

That first game was full of fireworks as Notre Dame held on for a 95-91 win over the then ninth ranked Blue Devils.   Coming into the game averaging just over 11 points per contest, Bonzie Colson scored a career high 31 while Demetrius Jackson added 24 in the win.

Despite the loss, the first game featured huge games from both Luke Kennard and Brandon Ingram for Duke.  Kennard scored a career best 30 while his classmate added 25.

Heading into the second matchup of the season one thing is certain:  Duke must play much better defense than it did in the opening round against NC State.  The Wolfpack shot 55 percent from the floor and pushed the Blue Devils into the final seconds before ultimately falling.

Against NC State Grayson Allen scored 19 points while Kennard and Ingram added 22 points each.  Senior Marshall Plumlee recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds despite suffering a broken nose in the second half.
