Ranked as the No. 16 tight end prospect in the country by Scout.com, Marwede chose Duke over a number of elite offers including Tennessee, Miami (Fla.), Missouri, Northwestern, Penn State, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Pittsburgh, Arkansas, Iowa State, and Nebraska.
The 6-foot-5, 235 pound Illinois native visited Duke for the basketball game against Virginia.
Marwede was recruited by one of the newest coaching additions to the Blue Devil coaching staff, Coach Jim Bridge.
“[From the visit] I really liked the Duke coaches and the players who were there. I also liked the facilities. And, obviously, the academics at Duke.”
As a junior Marwede played tight end for Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy and helped the team to the 8A state championship in Illinois - the largest classification in the state. He recorded nine touchdowns along the way.
