When the most recent contact period opened the Blue Devils wasted little time in placing a call to Winter Park (Fla.) wide receiver Jordan Pouncey.  Shortly after the period began, Pouncey and his family made the trip to Durham for an unofficial visit.

“I was doing college tours up the east coast around three weeks ago. We were actually driving to another school and Coach Faris hit me up saying ‘Hey, we need to get you up here tomorrow, is there any way you can come by’.  So we ended up going to see them.  My whole family met with Coach Cutcluffe, and it was a great visit.”

That was the first visit.  Soon after, the two parties were back together.

“Two weeks later they asked me if I could come back up for a full tour.  I flew up there - my first time flying by myself - and Coach Cutcliffe offered me in his office during that trip.”

On that trip Pouncey says he had a chance to really see what Duke is all about, and it was something different than he expected.

“How would I characterize the visit?  Wow!  To be honest I was expecting there to be all these stuck up rich people, but after walking through campus I saw so much diversity and that helped ease my worries.  When I thought about Duke I think of a prestigious private schools.  Where I’m from a lot of kids associate that with those kinds of people.”

After his worries were assuaged, Waters had a chance to sit down with his recruiting coach, Jeff Faris, and Coach Cutcliffe to talk shop.

“Coach Faris, Coach Cutcliffe, and I were sitting in Coach Cutcliffe’s man cave - it’s the room he hides in when he wants to get away from everything - and he told me to take a seat.  Then he showed me some film from practice that had just happened.  After that we talked about my future and how I was a real priority to them.  I don’t remember everything that was said, but it was a great feeling.”

As a junior Pouncey recorded 17 catches for 515 yards for his high school.  His film caught the attention of Coach Faris and assistant head coach Jim Bridge for some specific reasons that they shared with the target.

“They project me as a receiver.  They like that I’m big and fast.  Some receivers are soft and more finesse type players, but I’m very physical.  I’m a big boy, so I can make plays on the ball.”

With so much happening between Duke and Pouncey, how would he characterize the Blue Devils’ relationship with him at this point?

“My relationship with Duke is very good. The whole coaching staff is working to recruit me and that means a lot to me because most schools don't do that."
