It’s been a busy holiday weekend in Durham as the Blue Devils picked up a second commitment in three days with the addition of Joshua Blackwell.
Head coach David Cutcliffe and company got some big news on Sunday night when Buford (Ga.) High star Joshua Blackwell committed to Duke.
Blackwell chose the Blue Devils over a slew of high major offers including Georgia Tech, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, Northwestern, Louisville, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, and West Virginia among others.
So what was it about Duke’s recruiting pitch that prompted the decision?
“I made the decision because I felt if football didn't work out which school would give me the best opportunity to succeed,” said Blackwell. “Coach Faris was a guy who offered me first and stayed with me through it all.
Recruited as an athlete, Blackwell could play a number of positions for Duke, but projects as a running back as this time.
“Really I’m not sure where I’ll play, and I’ve played almost everything for Buford so wherever they need me to play, I’ll play.”
Blackwell indicated that despite the offers and interest from other programs, he considers himself a solid commitment.
