Duke landed another key piece of the offensive line on Wednesday night with the commitment of three star offensive lineman Patrick Leitten.
Patrick Leitten, a 6-foot-7, 250 point offensive tackle out of Brentwood (Tenn.) Ravenwood High committed to Duke on Wednesday night via Twitter.
The three star tackle chose the Blue Devils over offers from Yale, Vanderbilt, and Illinois State. Leitten is considered a top 100 overall offensive tackle according to Scout.com’s team of experts who see the Tennessee prospect as a potential upperclassman contributor at the ACC level.
“Leitten is about upside,” wrote Chad Simmons, Scout.com national recruiting analyst. “As a technician, he is strong, and maybe advanced for an offensive tackle at his age. He is strong in pass sets and he has a good base. He just needs to continue adding strength and mass to his frame. He has the length, his reach is there, and he is an offensive tackle who still needs time to develop his body. He has solid punch and his is very smart.”
That evaluation continued recently at The Opening regional event in Atlanta as Simmons saw a lot of potential in the newest Blue Devil.
“He is still very lean and he needs to add weight/mass, but when it comes to pass sets and technique, he was one of the best. He is one that needs time in the weight room and a redshirt, but with his frame and potential, his recruitment should pick up in the coming months.”
Leitten becomes Duke’s 12th commitment from the class of 2017.
