Duke landed Alabama defensive back Leonard Johnson on Thursday night when the prospect announced his commitment via Twitter.
Johnson is a 6-foot-3, 185 pound defensive back from Hayden High School in Hayden Alabama. He was fielding interest from a number of SEC programs, but had not yet pulled in offers from the likes of Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
Johnson camped with Duke in June and his performance at the Saturday Night Lights event is what seems to have earned him the offer.
Playing for a smaller program, Johnson still managed to earn high praise from Scout.com’s national director of scouting, Scott Kennedy.
“He’s a two way standout at Hayden,” said Kennedy. “Johnson is a long, lean defensive back as well as a good catch and run wide receiver. The best projection for him at the next level will be on the defensive side of the ball, but he could certainly play either on the next level.”
