Ranked as one of the top five players in the class of 2018, Spartanburg (S.C.) standout Zion Williamson has seen his recruitment surge well into the high major stratosphere of late as more and more programs have jumped into his recruitment since he has been able to field phone calls directly.
“I am hearing from a lot of schools,” Williamson told TDD’s Steve Clark. “Iowa State, Seton Hall, Baylor, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, Clemson, South Carolina, and Georgia are all talking to me. And there’s a lot more.”
Most of those programs have offered at this point, but a select few of the elite high majors are still waiting it out to this point.
“I”m going to say that Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Alabama, and Arkansas are seriously recruiting me, but haven’t offered.”
The interest from the various programs has given Williamson time to reflect on the building interest. However, it’s not something that has necessarily surprised him either.
“In my opinion I’m the best, so I’m not so much surprised by who has been coming to my games. I’m just blessed that they are coming to watch me play. When you look around it’s surreal to see all the coaches, but when the ball tips, you have to go and be in the game.”
In Duke’s case, the Blue Devils were regular attendees at Williamson’s games over the past few weeks and the coaches have reached out to establish an early relationship.
“They said they are going to start coming to my games they said. They are going to call me to give me some more information about their program as well. Coach Capel and Coach James and Coach Jon Scheyer have all contacted me separately.”
And what was Duke’s collective message?
“They all said they love my game and that they are interested in me coming to Duke.”
Williamson is considered a five star prospect by Scout.com and the nation’s No. 4 overall prospect and second best power forward.
