Duke Lands Two-Way Lineman Derrick Tangelo

Duke Football landed a sleeper lineman commitment on Thursday when Maryland prospect Derrick Tangelo announced his decision on Twitter.

Versatile two-way lineman prospect Derrick Tangelo committed to Duke on Thursday morning via a Twitter announcement.

The 6-foot-3 lineman chose Duke over offers from Temple, Navy, and Wake Forest among others and decided to commit while on a visit yesterday.

"I committed yesterday on the visit and the coaches were very happy about the decision," said Tangelo.  "I was relieved that the process has finally come to an end."

The Blue Devils recruited Tangelo to play defensive tackle at the 3-technique role.

"They want me to be a dominant tackle for them.  When I was on the visit they watched my film and said they wanted me to come to Duke, so we made it happen.  I was very impressed with Duke and got to meet Coach Albert and Coach Cutcliffe."

As a junior Tangelo recorded 59 tackles including 20 tackles for loss and six sacks.
