Duke Starting QB Thomas Sirk Unlikely To Be Ready

The news that Duke starting quarterback Thomas Sirk had suffered another injury broke on our message boards overnight.

Starting quarterback Thomas Sirk has suffered another injury to his Achilles according to multiple sources.  The news was first reported on TheDevilsDen.com's message boards overnight.

Sirk had been sidelined with an injury to his Achilles tendon earlier this year, but had worked hard to prepare for the season opener.   As recently as the start of camp Duke head coach David Cutcliffe had indicated an expectation that this fifth year senior could be ready to go for next week's game against NC Central.

Now, however, that hope appears to have been stalled as Sirk was reportedly re-injured yesterday in practice.  He is being evaluated this morning, though no official word on the diagnosis or any subsequent recovery time has been announced by the program.

Assuming Sirk is unable to play in the opener or beyond, Duke will likely turn to redshirt freshman Daniel Jones who has taken a majority of the first string work in practices as the Blue Devils prepare to being the season.

We'll have more information as the program releases it.
