White Tops Blue In Annual Preseason Scrimmage

Jayson Tatum led all scorers as White beat Blue by 15 points in the annual preseason Blue-White game.

The 2016-2017 season began on Saturday night with the annual Blue-White scrimmage as part of the Countdown to Craziness event.

Freshman small forward Jayson Tatum led all scorers with 18 points as the White team beat the Blue 52-37 in a 20 minute exhibition on Saturday night.   

The 6-foot-8 wing out of St. Louis hit 6-of-11 shots from the field and 5-of-6 from the line while playing all 20 minutes.   He was joined in double figures by sophomore Luke Kennard who added 11 points which included shooting 3-of-4 from long range.

As a team the White squad shot 7-of-10 from the perimeter and 17-of-31 overall while racing out to a lead and never looking back.

The Blue team was led by its backcourt of Grayson Allen and Frank Jackson who combined for 22 points on the evening.   Jackson finished shooting 5-of-8 from the field while classmate Marques Bolden added seven points and seven rebounds.

Not participating in the scrimmage were redshirt junior Sean Obi and highly rated freshman, Harry Giles.  Both players are recovering from off-season surgical procedures.
