Kaun Narrows List To Three

After having a rough summer mired by injury, Alexander Sasha Kaun has finally begun to get back to doing the things that made him one of the top 20 prospects in the country. The 6-foot-11, 245 pound big man has cut his list to three finalists and has scheduled official visits to all three schools, including Duke.

"He's been to the doctor and was told that he doesn't need to be on crutches anymore," said Florida Air Academy head coach Aubin Goporo. "I was a little surprised because he's still walking funny, but if he stays off of it he should be back to full strength."

Indeed the foot injury that was sustained at the NBA Players Camp in early July, has kept "Sasha" out of action for nearly six weeks, but that hasn't stopped him from getting a head start on his recruiting timetable that was originally thought to include a total of five official visits.

"He's down to three schools, and I am really happy that he's gotten this far," said Goporo. "It has been a hectic few months for all of us here."

Those three finalists are Duke, Michigan State, and Kansas. Kaun will visit Kansas on September 5, Michigan State on the 12th, and then finishes up on September 27th with a trip to Durham. The lateness of the Duke trip will allow Kaun to participate in pickup action with the current members of the Blue Devil roster.

While the official visits are set up, the three finalists have a chance to also meet with Kaun and his coach in Florida for ‘in-home' visits, but none of the programs have begun to set those up at this time.

During his junior season Kaun averaged 13 points, seven rebounds and two block shots per game as a secondary offensive option for Florida Air. Look for those numbers to drastically improve during a senior campaign in which Kaun will be the featured offensive option.
