Top New Jersey RB Likes Duke Early On

While the Blue Devils have made their living on a powerful running game in the past few seasons, head coach Carl Franks and staff will be losing their pair of star running backs after this season. To continue the trend, Duke will have to search the ranks of underclassmen for suitable successors. One name to pop on the list hails from The Peddie School in Hightstown, NJ.

Rising sophomore Myron Rolle has already seen his stock shoot up in his young high school career. The 6-foot-3, 201 pound running back has already met with high powered program leaders including a one on one conversation with Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops. He's also very interested in Duke.

TheDevilsDen.com caught up with Rolle to conduct a Q&A session with the talented prospect.

TDD: If you had to give me a list right now, who would be on it?

Myron Rolle: I am pretty much wide open to every school, but if I had to choose five they would be Oklahoma, Purdue, Duke, Florida State, and Rutgers. Oklahoma is a football powerhouse and sends many players to the next level. Purdue is a good mixture of football and academics in a rural setting. Duke perfectly matches my academic interest (Neurology) to go along with an enthusiastic football coaching staff. I like the way Florida State plays football - attack, attack, attack. And finally Rutgers is the state school and it is close to home.

Which head coaches have you talked to so far?

I have talked to Bob Stoops from Oklahoma on several occasions this past summer. I have to call him since I am an underclassman. I have been in contact with Bradley Sherrod as well from Duke. I am going to continue calling schools throughout the year.

What has been the major focus of those talks? Anything stick out?

At Oklahoma, Coach Stoops let me try on his championship rings in his office. He talked about the way the players at OU are cared for and know the importance of getting education while playing football. Coach Joe Tiller from Purdue did not really talk about football as much. He talked about the whole school and the atmosphere of it. It was almost as though I was a regular student rather than a football player. I liked that approach.

Have you taken any visits to date? Are any planned?

I have not taken any visits although I plan on taking an unofficial visit to Oklahoma in Novemeber.

Where have you camped so far

I have camped at Duke, Oklahoma and Purdue. Many coaches liked me at Duke's football camp. They were very impressed. At Oklahoma and Purdue, I was offered verbal scholarships. Both Coach Stoops and Coach Tiller remarked that they have never offered a Sophomore-to-be. At Purdue I also won Most Outstanding Defensive Back.

Height? Weight? 40 Time?

I am 6'3", 201 lbs. and I run the forty in 4.49 seconds.

Which positions do you play? What do you project to play in college?

I play Free Safety and Running Back. I am only a sophomore so I think I have a lot of time to decide what position I want to play in college. I just want to keep getting bigger, stronger and faster. I'll end up on the field somewhere.

How would you classify yourself as a student?

I am a 4.0 student, Class president and Habitat for Humanity member.

Have you gotten any scholarship offers to date?

So far I have two scholarship offers - Oklahoma and Purdue. I am hoping to get more by next summer.

Have you given any thought to a possible major in college?

I would like to major in Pre-Med and specialize in Neorology. I am interested in the brain and nervous system and I think in that occupation (Neorologist) I can give back to the community by helping others in need.

Do you have your career statistics handy?

Last year I started Free Safety as a Freshman and had 90 solo tackles, 5 interceptions and blocked 3 field goals.

What honors have you earned on the field?

I was awarded second team All-State Prep and second team All-League.
