Duke Women Land PA SF Laura Kurz

September has started well for Blue Devil head coach Gail Goestenkors. On Thursday she received word that Germantown Academy combo forward Laura Kurz had accepted an offer to play her college career for Duke.

Rated as high as #14 in the country by one scouting service, Kurz projects as a small forward at the collegiate level. Standing 6-foot-1 she has been described as a combination forward who excels on the wing thanks to an above average handle for a small forward. She also utilizes her height very well against smaller opponents and possesses above average fundamentals.

Her career at Germantown has already been quite decorated. As a junior she joined the 1,000 points scored club for the Patriots on the way to averaging 25 points, 11 rebounds, and four steals per game while shooting a sizzling 61% from the field.

To date she has accumulated a number of honors in the media including being named a member of Student Sports Junior All-America Team, a Nike All-America Camp invitee (2001, 2002), a member USA Today Junior All-America team and a USA Today Freshman All-American. Kurz has also earned Street & Smith All-America honorable mention (2001, 2002), and AP Class A All-State First Team (2003) honors.

Kurz currently competes for the Philadelphia Belles AAU team, and is the sister of current senior forward Rob Kurz -- a top 50 boy's prospect who verballed to Notre Dame this year.
