Tatum leads No. 12 Duke past No. 14 Virginia, 65-55

CHARLOTTSVILLE, Va - Jayson Tatum scored 21 of his 28 points in the second half and No. 12 Duke beat No. 14 Virginia Wednesday night, 65-55, the Blue Devils improved to 21-5 on the year.

Tatum hit three 3-pointers as the shot clock expired in the second half, all of them after a 5-0 spurt pulled Virginia to within a single point.

ACC Player of The Year candidate Luke Kennard added 16 points for the suddenly surging Blue Devils, who pulled into a second place tie with Louisville and Florida State. Just a game behind league leading North Carolina.

In perhaps their best defensive effort of the year Duke grabbed 23 defensive rebounds and forced several shot-clock violations.

The Blue Devils will turn their attention to a Wake Forest team that took them to the wire in Winston-Salem last month. Only a  perfect second half effort from Kennard allowed the Blue Devils to escape with a win. The first of their current six game streak.
