Clint's Notebook: 2005 PG Greg Paulus

ACC Recruiting Analyst Clint Jackson joins the staff of The Devils Den officially this month and will be contributing a few articles a month for us from now on. With his first contribution to the Devils Den -- Clint reveals his notes from the spring and summer on future Duke point guard, Greg Paulus.

These are Clint's exclusive notes directly from his scouting notepad to your monitor. We hope you enjoy.

Greg Paulus -- 6-foot-1 PG. Impressive physique for a 16 year old. Strong arms, muscular legs and he fills out his jersey better than most kids his age. Looks to take immediate control of the tempo. Likes to run the offense and attack a zone defense. Good instincts against pressure defense. Nice cross-over move and jump stop in traffic. Really aggressive, yet controlled. His athletic ability is not superb, but he's quick with the ball. Greg is a very nice ball-handler who can escape pressure with his left or right hand. Fabulous floor general who understands spacing and creating chances for his teammates. A coach on the floor.

His three pointers thus far have been off -- although his form and elevation on his jumper are correct. A few 24 footers have rimmed out but the rims look a little tight here in Hampton. He may be forcing his shot here in Hampton a little.

Really picked it up in the second half. Scoring well and running the team. He broke some defenders down pretty bad with his quick cross-overs and changing speeds. We like his ability to penetrate and kick the ball to the open shooter. Takes it to the rim if he needs to. Seems to reset the offense when nothing is there. Very good instincts in the half court game. Tough warrior in the lane. He'll fight for rebounds and isn't afraid to sacrifice his body for the team. Quick hands and an alert on-the-ball defender.

His range looks to be about 24 feet, and anything further out looks awkward. May need to improve his mid-range game a bit to keep defense off balance. Really wants to win. Stays fired up. Great stamina. Underrated quickness.
