Allen, Tatum lead Duke over Troy

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Allen had 21 points off five 3-pointers and Jayson Tatum added 18 points and 12 rebounds to help lead Duke over Troy in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

Allen has fully embraced his role as Duke's sixth man.

"Just to give the team that extra boost."

Shrugging off a cascade of boos each time he touched the ball, Aleen helped the ACC Champion Blue Devils improve to 28-8 on the season.

The Blue Devils hit 13 3-pointers and buried the Trojans, who were making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2003. Troy sophomore Jordon Varnado led the Trojans with 18 points.

Freshman Jayson Tatum was praised by his head coach for his defensive effort, who finished with nine defensive rebounds, four blocks and four steals - leading the Blue Devils in each category.

Next Up for the Blue Devils: They will face No. 7 seed South Carolina on Sunday.
