Devils Thrashed By FSU, 56-7

In a game that wasnt supposed to be close, Florida State erased any doubts early on en route to an easy 56-7 victory on Saturday. Seminole quarterback Chris Rix threw a pair of touchdown passes, while the FSU defense added its own pair of scores helping Duke to a record setting 27th straight conference defeat.

Senior running back Chris Douglas struck the only blow for the Blue Devils with a 10-yard touchdown scamper in the first quarter

The game was never in doubt as the Duke defense proved incapable of slowing down the high octaine Florida State offense, surrendering three touchdowns on the Noles' first three possessions of the game to take a 28-7 lead into the locker room.

The lead widened early in the second half, albeit in unusual fashion. A.J. Nicholson scooped up a Mike Schneider fumble and then fumbled himself before picking the ball up and running the endzone, totally just a 3 yard touchdown return.

Things didn't get much better for Schneider in the fourth quarter as the redshirt freshman threw an interception, which was promptly returned 71 yards by Antonio Cromartie late in the fourth quarter.

On the afternoon the Duke offense made little noise against the vaunted Seminole defenders, totally just 275 yards of total offense compared to over 420 yards for the visitors.

The loss, which dropped Duke to 2-3 on the season, is just the beginning of what is a murderous stretch of games for the Blue Devils. Duke now enjoys a bye week before facing off against Wake Forest and NC State at home before traveling to Maryland and Tennessee.
