"Ever since I was small, I dreamed of playing for Duke, and the academics are outstanding," the 17-year-old Black said. "I feel Duke is the right fit for me and I feel comfortable being a part of that family."
Black chose the Blue Devils over a number of other high powered programs including Uconn. In fact Husky head coach Geno Auriemma made two trips to Winston-Salem to try to recruit Black, and that LSU coach Sue Gunter, Texas coach Jody Conradt and Georgia coach Andy Landers also came to talk to Black, but it was Goestenkors who made the needed headway.
Black, who made the 2003 Associated Press All-State second team, joins Germantown Academy small forward Laura Kurz as the only two members of the class of 2004.
