Devils blast Premier Players 118-56

Senior All American Alana Beard scored a game high 24 points in just 21 minutes of action as the Blue Devils opened their exhibition season with a convincing 62 point victory over the Premier Players Tuesday in Cameron.

Joining Beard in double figures were five other Devils led by Iciss Tillis with 23 points and 13 rebounds, and a nice return to the hardwood for Monique Currie who logged 21 points and eight rebounds.

Though the final score portrays a totally different situation, this game was close until midway through the first half. At that point Duke was trailing 26-21, before a 32-8 run close the half with Duke holding a comfortable 53-34 advantage.

On a night when the offense was clicking thanks to a combined 31 assists, the defense was equally impressive as the Blue Devils limited the Players to just 37.9 percent shooting from the floor, while forcing them into 25 turnovers.

The nation's top recruit, freshman Brittany Hunter added 14 points and six rebounds in just 18 minutes of action before leaving due to cramps.

The second exhibition game will take place Saturday when Duke hosts EV1 at 1:00 PM in Cameron. The season kicks off on November 16th against Texas in the State Farm tip-off classic.
