Blue Devils Finish Preseason with victory

After entering college as the nation's most heralded freshman, it was only a matter of time before Brittany Hunter made her mark on the Duke's women's program. The 6-foot-3 center didn't wait long, scoring 24 points while grabbing 13 rebounds in Duke's second preseason victory.

Behind Hunter's big day, the Blue Devils overcame a sluggish opening half performance to out-distance EVI (Everyone's Internet) 88-72, in the final preseason tuneup of the year on Sunday afternoon in Cameron.

Hunter, who earned a starting spot alongside Iciss Tillis in the frontcourt, established herself early on as an interior threat, converting 11-of-20 shot attempts. Meanwile the senior Tillis added her second consecutive double-double of the preseason with 12 points and 13 rebounds. A third player, sophomore Monique Currie, also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Aside from Hunter, Tillis, and Currie, senior Alana Beard and sophomore Jessica Foley also reached double figures. Beard, who came off the bench due to missing practice while attending to a death in the family, finished with 16 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, while Foley chipped in with 10 points.

The Duke women begin the regular season on Sunday, Nov. 16, when they face Texas, ranked third in the preseason Coaches' Poll, in the State Farm Women's Tip-Off Classic in West Lafayette, Ind. The game, which will be televised on ESPN, is set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
