War On The Shore: Day One

MILFORD, Del. – Day One of the War On The Shore is on the books. Though none of the powerhouse programs were upset, there was some nail biting taking place by the big dogs.

Post Grad & Senior Checklist

Dorell Wright, SF, South Kent: So far he's the best talent in the building. His opening effort produced 24 points and a dozen boards. It seems like he's continuing to improve. The athleticism he has gets him places. His game is much smoother than it's ever been.

Isaiah Swann, PG, Hargrave: The FSU-bound guard got himself to the line 13 times and converted 11 of them. He finished with 24 points and was a very difficult match up for the STM guards.

Norman Plummer, SF, Hargrave: He's probably the best offensive rebounding small forward in the class; if he's not he's close. 27 points and 10 rebounds were pivotal in his team's win. He's Mr. Energy and that's why he's going to be a big help at Dayton.

J.R. Hairston, SF, FUMA: Here's a guy who if he misses, you can bet he's going up and chasing the rebound. Hairston hails from a winning high school program and he's a hustler. The knock on him remains his body. There's not a lot of muscle mass on that frame. He had 13 and 7 in the loss.

Rahshon Clark, SF, Bridgton: Like Hairston and Plummer, this guy is all about energy. He's a terrific athlete and he's got a good basketball IQ. He's one of the quickest leapers around and his work on the glass was key in Bridgton making a run at the upset over Laurinburg. He had a dozen points and 10 rebounds and when he's working inside he's most effective. Clark knows his own game and rarely tries to do too much.

Longar Longar, PF/C, Laurinburg: The scoring package is coming along. He made a pair of hook shots in the open when he went for 13 and 9. The shot blocking has always been there and he's a good rebounder. Longar is a college weight program away from maximizing his potential.

Joe Posey, SG, Notre Dame Academy: He went 10-for-21 to finish with 24 points. He was 3-for-10 from downtown but toss out the statistics. His stroke is pure and he's going to terrorize defenses with his quick trigger from deep. Excellent pickup for James Madison.

2005 Checklist

Eric Price, PG, Blair: The change of scenery seems to have served him well. Price accounted for 9 assists (the highest total of the day) to go with 12 points and 5 turnovers. The guy can get to the rim with the best of them. He's not a great finisher yet, but he's adept at getting it into the paint.

2006 Checklist

Rob Thomas, SF, St. Thomas More: Jere Quinn has a good one in Thomas. He scored 21 points in the first half and 29 for the game. Thomas is a good looking athlete who did work at the rim and inside the paint, before stepping out and nailing a 3. Loves to get on the glass and he could be a big timer.

Shomari Spears, PF, Blair: He's just 6-5, but he's got a motor. After taking an elbow above the eye he returned to score 16 and pull down 7 rebounds. He's a beast inside and certainly one to watch in the future.

Scout's Seat

Vince Banks is Laurinburg's best scoring option on the wing right now. He had 18 in the win. … Marshall signee looks like a kid with a good idea of how to run a team. … Marist signee Ben Farmer of St. Thomas More has a terrific feel for the game. …

Dorell Wright blocks a ton of shots because his athletic ability allows him to hang in the air and he simply waits on guys to block shots. … Cheyenne Moore looks to be much more comfortable and makes better decisions in transition and the up tempo game than half court sets. …

Dunk of the Day: Rahshon Clark threw down a nasty effort OVER Longar Longar. … Emanuel Willis skied for a rebound in traffic over a host of guys. Those are the kind of plays his coach would like to see him make on a consistent basis. … There are two terrific offensive rebounding SFs in this event: Norm Plummer and Rahshon Clark.

Around The Gym

Egidijus Dimsa arrived yesterday from Lithuania and the junior played sparingly for South Kent. … C.J. Anderson who did not make the trip. … Hargrave coach Kevin Keatts is on baby watch. His wife Georgette could give birth to the couple's first child any day now. … Laurinburg debuted a new set of uniforms today and they're crafted in the old-school Washington Bullets style. Pretty snazzy. …
