Devils Push Past Pacific 82-69

For the second time in as many games the Blue Devils started sluggishly only to out distance their opponent in the second half. This time it was the Pacific Tigers who were unable to keep pace as Duke extended a six point half time advantage to as many as 22 before holding on for a 82-69 victory in the first round of the Great Alaska Shootout.

Luol Deng scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while junior swing man Daniel Ewing added 20 as well as Duke broke open a 39-33 game with a 24-8 burst to open the second half, extending the lead to 63-41.

As was the case against Detroit, the Blue Devils fell behind early to Pacific, trailing for more than 10 minutes before J.J. Redick knocked down his only three pointer of the night to make it 15-14 with 9:43 remaining in the first half.

After falling behind by 22, Pacific stormed back courtesy of a 15-3 run to cut the lead to just 66-56 with 7:24 remaining. A pair of free throws would cut the lead back to single digits at 72-64, but a pair of three pointers from Deng and Ewing put the game out of reach at 78-62.

For the game Deng was 4-of-5 from behind the arc.

Aside from Deng and Ewing, Redick (13), Shavlik Randolph (11), and Shelden Williams finished the game in double figures.
