Sources: Roof To Be Named Head Coach

After two weeks of searching the head coaching search has ended for the Duke search committee. The name that has risen to the top is none other than Ted Roof, who helped the Blue Devils to wins in two of their last five games, including big victories over Georgia Tech and North Carolina.

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to TheDevilsDen.com that the selection committee will indeed recommend Roof to become the head coach at Duke University. The committee reportedly finalized the decision on Tuesday afternoon.

Roof, who served as Duke's defensive coordinator for two years before being named interim head coach after Carl Franks was fired during the middle of the season, was an All-ACC linebacker for Georgia Tech before moving on to the coaching ranks where he has held positions on staff at Alabama, West Georgia, Massachusetts, Western Carolina and Georgia Tech.

Roof lettered four times for the Yellow Jackets during the 1982-85 seasons. He was a starter during his final three years and ranks seventh on the all time tackles list for Tech.

Since being named the interim head coach, Roof has been working on the recruiting trail where he has secured commitments from five prospects, all rated at least two star level players by TheInsiders.com. Since that time each of the commitments has stated his desire for Roof to be retained, for their respective commitments to remain solid.

With Roof as the head coach there are expected to be coaching staff changes made in the coming weeks.
