Nelson Posts More Big Numbers as Sheldon Rolls

Despite a sluggish first half due to terrific defensive pressure, future Blue Devil DeMarcus Nelson wouldn't be denied yet another huge stat line while beating Ok Ridge of Sacramento 68-53. Nelson finished the game with 43 points, 15 rebounds, six steals, and three assists.

Throughout the first half the Oak Ridge defense keyed in on the 6-foot-4 combo guard, denying the ball and preventing any offense from flowing his way. After two quarters of play the future Blue Devil had logged just 14 points.

The third quarter was a completely different story as the Huskies continually started their offense with Nelson attacking the rim. He responded with a 19 point third quarter that featured a number of highlight jams including: a 360 on a break away, an alley-oop over two defenders on a backdoor cut, and finally a throw down over a would be power forward with authority.

With his highlight dunk quota filled, Nelson settled in with his long range jumper, nailing three 3-pointers which were all from or beyond the NBA arc. For an encore he also played some spectacular defense, flying in with some trademark rejections on the Oak Ridge post players.

On the season Nelson has averaged 33.8 points, 13.3 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 5.0 steals, and 3.3 blocks per game for the top ranked Huskies (4-0).
