Nelson and Huskies suffer first defeat

After opening the season with a flurry, future Blue Devil DeMarcus Nelson and the Sheldon High Huskies were turned back in the championship game of the Husky Classic to central section power Clovis High, 65-59.

Clovis' scouting report was dead on for defeating Sheldon as they continually ran three defenders at Nelson every time he touched the ball. Meanwhile the coaches and bench players would constantly talk to the players on the floor, helping them clog the driving lanes, which forced Sheldon's offense into jams with no space for Nelson to operate.

Despite the efforts of the Clovis defense, and the overall physical play of the contest, Nelson was almost able to help his team to the victory. On the night he hit for 29 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks – good enough to be named Most Valuable Player of the second tournament in a row.
