While he's not headed to Duke until the summer, future Blue Devil David McClure has already run into some of the "love" he and his future teammates will encounter in nearly every gym they play during his college career. Most recently it was McClure who had the last laugh, leading Trinity Catholic to a 70-61 victory over Danbury with 11 points and eight rebounds.
As soon as the Crusaders took the floor the "Duke
Sucks" chants began toward McClure and Trinity Catholic. Soon after came the "overrated" taunts at the 6-foot-6 212 pound small forward. Still it wasn't enough to phase either the future Blue Devil or his teammates as Trinity held on for a nine point victory over the previously unbeaten Hatters.
"It was wild," said McClure of the environment. "In that kind of game it's important to execute on the defensive end and go from there. We did that and we were able to be successful."
After jumping out to a comfortable lead in the first half, the Crusaders found the margin cut to a single basket before a McClure sparked run opened up a 10 point cushion early in the final period to put the game away.
