Thompson Chooses Northwestern

Former Blue Devil Michael Thompson has decided to end his re-recruitment by choosing to attend Northwestern University. Thompson will be eligible to play in December 2004. TheDevilsDen.com had the opportunity to speak with Michael's older brother for the complete scoop.

"Michael has decided to attend Northwestern," Thompson's older brother told TDD. "He was ultimately swayed by the opportunity to put up big numbers and earn a lot of time early on."

Thompson, who transferred from Duke after the fall semester due to a lack of playing time, was a McDonalds All-American as a senior in high school, but could never break into the major rotation while a member of the Blue Devils.

After transferring he considered a number of schools including Iowa State, Texas, UCLA, and Notre Dame. However in the end family ties to Northwestern could have been the deciding factor according to the elder Thompson.

"Assistant Coach Craig Robinson did an amazing job re-recruiting Michael in terms of basketball. More importantly an economics degree from Northwestern will position him nicely for the rest of his life. Coach Robinson who also spent time on Wall Street was very helpful on this point."

According to Elgin Northwestern will backdate a big portion of the schedule, allowing Thompson to only miss a minimum amount of games.
