Big Time OL on Campus This Weekend

With a number of high profile offensive linemen already in the fold for next season, the Blue Devils will be hosting another stud OL prospect this weekend when one of the top 70 players in the country makes his way to Durham from California.

West Hills Chaminade (CA) standout Adam Speer spent the last two years playing on both the offensive and defensive line. Despite astounding numbers as a defensive tackle (126 tackles including nine sacks, and five forced fumbles as a senior), many programs are recruiting him to play along the offensive line.

That's not all that surprising either considering Speer recorded 120 pancakes on the offensive side of the ball for 8-4 West Hills. For his efforts on both sides of the ball he earned both All Conference, All Section, and All-State honors.

Early on Speer has been influenced heavily by the hard charging efforts of the Oregon State Beavers, though the 6-foot-2, 270 pounder is eager to see what Duke has to offer.

"They are one of the nation's top academic schools and the football program seems to be improving," said Speer. "I am looking forward to visiting."

Last week Speer visited Oregon State and had glowing reviews of the campus and the program.

"I really like Coach Riley -- he's really personable, and you can tell he really cares about his players. The area is also really pretty. I also really like the area. I usually vacation in Oregon every year."

Both Duke and Oregon State have offered along with Navy, as well as Boise St and Fresno St.

Some of the numbers Speer has logged off the field include a bench press of 365 pounds, a squat of 520, while running the forty in 4.91 seconds. He's also able to do 24 reps of 185 pounds on the bench.
