Future Blue Devil DeMarcus Nelson and the Sheldon Huskies wrapped up their regular season schedule Friday night with an impressive 75-52 victory over Laguna Creek High. Nelson finished the game with 32 points.
If Laguna Creek had any illusions of catching the Huskies looking toward the post season, those ideas were quickly squashed by the 6-foot-4, 212 pound guard who paced Sheldon to a 20 point halftime advantage with 23 points and 12 rebounds in the first half.
After intermission Nelson continued the onslaught, though he resorted to distributing the ball to his teammates for the rest of the game. For the game Nelson finished with 32 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists, and five steals. However the most impressive bit of Friday's performance was the trio of crowd-pleasing dunks.
The victory improves Sheldon to 24-4 on the season, including 13-1 in the Delta League – good enough to tie with Valley High for the regular season title. Nelson finished the season averaging 31 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists per game.
DeMarcus Nelson has been named to the 2004 McDonalds All-American West squad along with fellow Duke commitment Shaun Livingston.
