Sheldon High School advanced to the sectional semifinals with an easy 78-45 victory over Beyer High. However the real drama was just how much closer future Blue Devil DeMarcus Nelson would inch to becoming the state's all time leading scorer.
The answer turned out to be 33 points closer as Nelson torched his opponents early and often, bringing his career total to 3,333 points – 26 shy of the state mark held by Emeryville High's Darnell Robinson from 1990-93.
When he wasn't scoring at will, Nelson continued his well rounded performances of late by hauling in nine rebounds and dishing out six assists as the Huskies rolled into Thursday's semifinals against Tokay. The game will be played at the Kings' Arco Arena.
