2006 Focus -- Wayne Ellington

CHAPEL HILL -- The cat is out of the bag. Go ahead and add this name to the Duke and North Carolina radar for 2006.

It's Wayne Ellington. He's 6-4. He's athletic. He can shoot. He's got plenty of handles. He's got the grades and he's going to keep getting better.

Ellington was one of the main offensive weapons for the 17 and under Playaz this weekend at the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.

And after nailing several long balls, crushing some mid-range pull-up jumpers off the bounce and scoring on some slashes to the hoop on Saturday afternoon, Ellington spoke to several members of the media after the game.

Word was out that he's caught the eyes of both Duke and North Carolina in the ACC...

"I'm a fan of both schools," said Ellington, with his trademark genuine smile. "I've liked North Carolina ever since I was young. But I also like Duke a lot."

When questioned for a current school list, the Merion Episcopal (PA.) sophomore already knows how to rattle them off like a high profile junior. And it sounded like a list of who's who in college basketball.

"North Carolina, UConn, Villanova, Wake Forest, Arizona and Duke," he responded.
