Austrie and Theo Help Bounce Advance

Guard Craig Austrie had a big night and Theo Davis blocked several shots to help their team win a game at the Rumble in the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y. -- Team Texas may have several of the finest prospects in the talent rich Lone Star State, but Wes Grandstaff's club was done in by a two-man wrecking crew on Saturday night at the Rumble in the Bronx.

Guard Craig Austrie scored 20 of his 22 points in the first half and big man Theo Davis chipped in 11 points and a bushel of blocked shots in New York Bounce's surprisingly lopsided 75-54 victory over Team Texas.

The victory allowed Bounce to advance to the GOLD playoff bracket with a perfect 3-0 ledger, while Team Texas dropped to 2-1 in pool play and earned a slot in Sunday's SILVER division quarters.

Despite the absence of 6-6 swingman C.J. Miles in the first half due to a stomach virus, Team Texas trailed just 40-36 at the half. Miles opted to give it a go in the second half, but even his presence couldn't help the Texans.

While Miles scored seven points, it was clear that he was not 100 percent. Be that as it may, he hoisted quite a few jumpers in the second half to try to get Team Texas back into the game.

Power forward Kevin Rogers led the way with 10 points, but it wasn't nearly enough for Team Texas to climb back into it.

On the other end, New York Bounce pushed the tempo and converted a number of easy opportunities. They shredded through Team Texas' press as if it were imaginary, quickly building the lead to double figures in the second half.

In the middle of it all was Davis, the gifted but often erratic 6-9 Canadian timber from Cardozo H.S. in Bayside, N.Y. Davis used his ample agility to score inside, but he might have done his most impressive handiwork on the defensive end, where he challenged and altered several Team Texas shots.

In one sequence, Team Texas shooting guard Terrell Harris challenged Davis, only to find his shot swatted back. He quickly corralled the rebound, thought he would give it another try, only to end up with the same result: a Davis "return to sender."

Strong point/combo guard Cameron Tyler and shooting guard Drew Gladstone (11 points) were also keys for Bounce in the win.
