Big Time Receiver Visiting Duke Today

The Duke football staff is set on bringing in a new level of talent to Durham, and the latest big time prospect to take an unofficial visit will be on campus will meet with the coaches on June 17th after competing in a national track meet.

"I've got a national track meet around there, so I'm going to take a visit to Duke," says Indianapolis (IN) Franklin Central High standout receiver Donald Washington. "I haven't had a chance to learn too much about them so far, but they offered me a scholarship and they are a good school, so I'll check them out."

While he's yet to have a chance to learn about the new look Blue Devils, Washington has grown quite familiar with Blue Devil Associate Head Coach David Kelly, who's also in charge of the wide receivers. In fact Washington has spoken with the Duke coach "many times", and credits him with the desire to take a Thursday visit.

"Coach Kelly convinced me to come down here on a fact finding mission," said Washington. "I liked that."

At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, you'd think that Washington is just another big receiver, but you should probably make that "big time" when describing the Indiana native on account of his 39-inch vertical jump, 4.5 forty time, and ability to log a near 25-foot long jump on the track.

Well, almost.

"I scratched the time I hit 25 feet," said Washington. "My best so far this year has been a 23'4", but I hope to do better this week."

As a junior Donald recorded 47 catches for 800 yards and eight touchdowns, which prompted offers from Duke, Stanford, E. Michigan and Miami of Ohio. He's also getting interest from Purdue, Indiana, Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida, Southern Illinois and Toledo.

Off the field he sports an impressive 3.3 grade point average, but has yet to take a standardized test.
