Three With Duke Ties Selected In 04 Draft

Once again head coach Mike Krzyzewski was well represented in the early stages of the NBA Draft as freshman Luol Deng and Duke commit Shaun Livingston were selected among the first seven picks.

Livingston to the Clippers:

After spurning Duke to head to the riches of the NBA, Peoria Central standout point guard Shaun Livingston was selected by the LA Clippers with the fourth overall pick in the draft. Livingston will join former Blue Devils Elton Brand and Corey Maggette under head coach Mike Dunleavy, Sr.

The 6-foot-7 playmaker is expected to compete for playing time right away according to experts as the Clippers played much of last season without a true point man on the court.

Deng Drafted by Phoenix; Headed to Chicago:

After becoming the second player in history to be ‘one and done' at Duke, 6-foot-8 forward Luol Deng saw his draft stock slip from a top five lock to the number seven slot and the Phoenix Suns.

While he was being fitted for a Suns cap, Luol was already part of a deal that sends him to Chicago where he becomes the third Blue Devil picked in the top ten in the last five years.

Also expected to be drafted in the second round was senior point guard Chris Duhon, who ended up being the 38th pick to Chicago.

The gritty Duke floor general will have a chance to make the Bulls' roster while competining for time with a stable of guards already in Chicago.
