Top Ohio DB has serious Duke Interest

The saying goes "Speed Kills". If that's the case then Duke's recruiting efforts in the class of 2005 could resemble some of the more infamous names in history as head coach Ted Roof and company continue to target very fast prospects.

The latest offer has gone out to one of Ohio's top defensive back prospects in the form of 5-foot-10, 175 pound Idris Lawrence of Brookhaven High in Columbus. Aside from having good size, Lawrence's main positives include a confirmed 4.45 40-yard dash, and a willingness to hit hard on would-be receivers.

That was evident during a junior season that saw Lawrence record 56 tackles and 22 pass deflections as Brookhaven raced to a perfect 10-0 regular season before falling in the district semifinals.

After football season concluded, Lawrence began focusing on track where he joined Brookhaven's relay teams to take second and third place in the 4x100 and 4x200 events at the Division II state meet in Ohio.

The combination of speed and skill have resulted in Lawrence hearing from several schools, and now holding offers from Ohio University, Cincinnati, and most recently Duke.

Idris has spent his summer making rounds on the camp circuit with stops at Pittsburgh and Ohio State so far. He has already taken care of business in the classroom by attaining a 3.3 grade point average and a 22 on his ACT.
