NC OL No Longer a Sleeper

Chris DeGeare is almost a sure lock for the Shrine Bowl this fall. Playing for the new head coach of the North Carolina squad, the Kernersville (N.C.) Glenn offensive lineman has an "in" for the squad. However, he has the talent to make the team regardless of the coach. His offer sheet backs that up.

Chris DeGeare Profile

"It is doing well right now," says the 6-foot-4, 320 pounder. "Clemson, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Duke have offered me."

DeGeare says he has no favorites among the offering schools plus N.C. State. He wanted to take trips around the area before doing that.

"I want to see the schools at least once, and then narrow it down some."

He has visited one school already for camp and came away impressed.

"I was at the UNC camp two weeks ago and worked with the offensive line coach. Then I got to look at the facilities and I liked what I saw."

One down, seven to go.

However, Degeare has several aspects he wants from a school.

"Number one, I want to go somewhere with a good academic background in my major; probably zoology, engineering, or radiology.

"Number two, is the football program. Number three is the location. My parents would like for me to stay close, but they say I can go wherever I want to go."

More schools could enter the mix for DeGeare soon as they learn about the big man. He says he is blessed with the talent but working hard to improve himself.

"What sets me apart is my size and how I come off the ball quickly. I am working on my foot quickness and trying to get me strength up. I need to work on my stamina a little, too."
