Scheyer Happy With Duke Offer

Jonathan Scheyer has an offer on the table from the Blue Devils and the junior could be closer to pulling the trigger than many realize.

``It was a relief when they offered," Scheyer said.

Jon Scheyer, the Glenbrook North 6-foot-5, 180 pound versatile wing, had a terrific showing at the Peach Jam, hitting plenty of shots from beyond the three-point arc, setting up his teammates and also showing that he's athletic enough to keep up with quicker opponents.

``A lot of people have labeled him as a scorer," said his teammate, Julian Wright. "But he can really create shots for other guys as well and he plays good defense."

``I'm happy with my play," Scheyer said. "Obviously, you always want to make shots. I shot the ball well and played good defense."

``I came in with a lot to prove," he continued. "I think this was the tournament I was looking forward to the most. I want to show people that I'm not just a shooter."

Scheyer said he's planning on taking unofficial visits to Cal and Arizona in the fall – and maybe to UCLA. He said that going to Duke team camp was a terrific opportunity.

``I had a lot of meetings with Coach K," Scheyer said. "He said that if I wanted to come, there's a scholarship waiting for me."

However, despite Scheyer's admiration for Duke and the program, he also said he's considering Illinois, Michigan State, Iowa, Marquette, Cal, Kansas and Arizona.
