Paulus Calls It A Summer

Lead guard Greg Paulus has called it a summer for basketball competition.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Greg Paulus scored 13 points on Tuesday night to help the Syracuse-Rochester Area players coast to an easy 69-54 pool play victory over IEBP #3 here at the Best of the Summer Tournament.

But he threw his last pass of the summer last night -- basketball pass, that is.

"Greg is headed back home tonight so that he can get ready for workouts with the football team," Dave Paulus, Greg's father said after the S-RAP win. "They are ready to start their summer workouts."

A two-sport standout from Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, N.Y., Paulus committed to the Duke basketball program as a rising junior. And he plans on playing the point guard position for the Blue Devil basketball team when he arrives at Duke in the fall of 2005.

But first, he plans to have one more season on the gridiron at CBA. And according to Mr. Paulus, that won't be the end of his son's football career.

He said that football recruiting analyst Tom Lemming has selected Greg to participate in the Army All-Star game in San Antonio, Tex., come early January 2005. That will likely be the last time his son dons the football pads before dedicating himself exclusively to the sport of college basketball.
