Ellington, Henderson Spark Playaz Win

Pair of Duke recruiting prospects competed this weekend at the Sonny Hill Tournament.

PHILADELPHIA, PENN. -- Wayne Ellington scored 31 points and Gerald Henderson thumped home several tremendous crowd-rising dunks to lead the Playaz Gold team to a 95-81 victory over Sam Rines at the Sonny Hill tournament held on the campus of Temple University.

Ellington, considered a top ten player in the 2006 class by the Insiders Report, buried jumpers all night long. He hit for two key three-pointers in the second half to help the Playaz blow open a close game in the middle of the second half.

Henderson, who finished with 19 points, is an athletic forward/guard who can climb the sky over the big bodies in the paint. He did so on several occasions to rock the small gym on Broad Street.

Juwon Carter also scored 14 points for the winners while teammates Hashim Bailey (12) and Chris Smith (eight points) contributed to the success of Jimmy Salmon's club.

Both Ellington and Henderson are considered among the best in the 2006 class. And each has several high major schools interested in their skills. Each of them said last night that no one leads in their recruiting processes.
