Aguanno & Schneider Highlight Scrimmage

DURHAM, N.C. -- Senior linebacker Giuseppe Aguanno recorded three tackles for loss and sophomore quarterback Mike Schneider completed 15-of-22 passes for 176 yards to highlight Duke's 120-play football scrimmage on Sunday evening.

"We executed very well offensively early on, but we have to learn how to sustain that success," head coach Ted Roof commented. "I was very pleased with how the quarterbacks threw the football, and Ben Patrick provided us with a spark by having a solid scrimmage. We must take care of the football better than we did tonight and we committed way too many penalties."

Schneider had five completions of 15 yards or more and tossed a three-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Andy Roland. Senior Chris Dapolito was 11-of-22 through the air for 112 yards while sophomore Curt Dukes hit on 10-of-11 tosses for 77 yards.

Sophomore wide receiver Deon Adams led the Blue Devils with seven receptions for 55 yards while freshman Jomar Wright had six grabs for 86 yards. Patrick finished the night with five catches for 55 yards. Freshman tailback Tim Ball paced the Duke ground attack with 48 yards on 11 carries.

Aguanno added one pass breakup to his three stops behind the line of scrimmage while senior defensive tackle Orrin Thompson logged one quarterback sack and one fumble recovery. Senior defensive end Phillip Alexander, junior defensive tackle Demetrius Warrick and senior safety Alex Green all chipped in a pair of tackles for loss while senior cornerback Kenneth Stanford had the game's only interception.

"The enthusiasm on defense was pretty good," Roof said. "We were swarming to the football and playing with some inspiration. We have to make sure we finish each and every play though."

Roof also commented on the progression of the Blue Devil rookies.

"Our freshman class as a whole continues to impress the coaching staff. Tonight I thought the skilled position guys showed they can compete at this level."

Duke returns to the practice field on Monday morning.
