Devils Could Jump Up With Neal

While the Duke coaching staff has seen some of their top targets head elsewhere in the last two weeks, one of the top backfield prospects on the board remains steadfast with his interest in possibly becoming a Blue Devil next fall.

"At this point I'm being recruited the hardest by Duke, NC State, and Maryland," says South Carolina safety/receiver prospect J.C. Neal. "I'm also getting interest from Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson, Virginia Tech, and Notre Dame."

While he's got a ton of interest from all over the country, Neal maintains that he's got a specific wish list when it comes to what he's looking for in a school.

"I'd like a place that has good academics, and a good coaching staff. One thing I'm really looking for is the chance to play early."

Early playing time? That could give the Blue Devils an advantage in some recruiting analysts' eyes, and that thought process has also been entertained by Neal.

"At Duke I could probably play as a true freshman according to what they have told and shown me. I like the coaching staff there, and if they have a good season they will be a big factor in my decision."

Despite the kind words for Coach Roof's program, Neal admits that at this point he's leaning towards another ACC program.

"Right now I'm looking hard at Maryland, but it's early. I mean it all depends on how things go this season. I'd say Duke has a chance, if things go well, but right now my top three are Maryland, NC State and Virginia Tech."

Neal is rated as the No.8 prospect in the state of South Carolina.
