Blue Devils Reel In 3 Star DE

Of the many critical positions to fill with this class of 2005 recruiting class, Defensive End ranked near the top of the list. On Monday morning the Blue Devils took a big step in the right direction with a commitment from a three star prospect.

Clifford Respress had teams all around the Southeast taking a hard look at him. However, the three-star defensive end from Barnesville (Ga.) Lamar County Comprehensive decided to end the process early.

"I just committed to Duke this morning," said the 6-foot-4, 237 pound defensive lineman. "I was thinking that Duke has a great educational opportunity, and I have a chance to play D-1 football. They have good things going for them."

While Respress has not set up a visit to see Duke in-person, what was it that made him want to commit?

"I was just thinking that I am ready to go to play for them."

A multi-sport athlete at Lamar County, Respress says that he plays "everything but golf" in high school. Participating in basketball, running the 400 meters and throwing the shot put in track, and mixing in a little baseball in addition to his duties on the football field.

He becomes the 12th commitment of the year for head coach Ted Roof, and the 5th to be rated as a three star prospect. Last season the Blue Devils signed two prospects rated that high in the entire class.
