Duke Still After Ellington?

It's never too early to start recruiting the next crop of top rated prospects. And though there are many names likely to appear on the radar in the class of 2006, the top priorities seem to be taking shape. One of the bigger names on the radar hails from Philadelphia, but is he still high on Duke?

Wayne Ellington burst onto the scene the summer as one of the top scoring guards in the class of 2006. Paired with Gerald Henderson in the backcourt of the Playaz AAU squad, the 6-foot-4 guard earned a number of high majors' interest throughout the summer scene.

Since that time the interest from several big time programs has continued, while others have begun to fall behind, including the Blue Devils. Perhaps that's because the Duke coaching staff apparently seems to rate Illinois shooting guard Jon Scheyer as the top shooting guard priority along with Henderson as the top wing.

Ellington maintains that he has no leader at this point in this process. "Right now I'm wide open. I'm just concentrating on becoming a more complete player. I need to keep hitting the weights to work on my strength."

Despite being wide open, he does have an early list of high major suitors including Connecticut, Arizona, Duke, Syracuse, Kentucky, Villanova, North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech.

"Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Villanova are trying to set up visits right now, but it's early for me."

With so many high majors calling, Ellington isn't hurting for attention. However, he is wondering what's the deal with Duke.

"They still send me stuff, but not as much as others. I guess they are still recruiting me. We'll have to see what happens there."
