Despite the holding pattern the 5-foot-11, 220 pounder now finds himself in, don't think that Brown was put off by Duke's inability to accept an on the spot commitment. After all, he was blown away by his trip.
"That place is so nice. Touring the campus was just amazing. The buildings were beautiful and they have really nice football facilities. I knew Duke was a nice place, but they I didn't expect all that."
Brown, a later addition to the Duke recruiting radar, improved his stock beginning in the spring when he showed up at Scout.com's MLS Greater Houston Area Combine on a mission. He improved his forty time to 4.77 (from nearly 4.9) and blew the 20-yard shuttle station away with a 4.15.
In the weight room he's already reporting a bench press max of 320lbs and a 415lbs squat max. And, he's serious about the academic side of things, already boasting a 3.8 GPA and an SAT well over the 1,000 needed to play at Duke.
"Duke is one of the top five schools in the country, and they play in a major football conference. Plus I know Vincent [Oghobaase] really well and he's happy there. They know if they offer I'll commit on the spot. I've told Coach Yano that's the deal, and he's being honest with me. My parents are and I both hope it's Duke."
He's had interest from several Big 12 programs including Oklahoma, Texas A&M and has heard from LSU. After visiting Oklahoma State, Louisiana Tech, and now Duke, Brown will trip to Stanford before signing day, on one condition.
"I'll cancel if Duke offers me."
