Brown Jumps In With Duke

Signing Day is always notorious for last minute happenings and dealings, but that wasn't going to be the case for one Texas LB as Mike Brown finally realized his dream and committed to the Blue Devils. TDD had a chance to briefly catch up with the latest edition to the Duke class for his comments on the process.

Midway through the morning on Tuesday, learned that Brown had indeed committed to the Blue Devils the night before. Despite maintaining that Duke was always extremely strong with head coach Ted Roof's program, the announcement came as a bit of a surprise.

"I was committed to Louisiana Tech, but I've talked to Coach Roof and am committed to Duke as of last night," said Mike Brown. "I'm really happy with the way it worked out, and so is my family."

Brown visited Duke on January 14th, but was a bit put off that the Blue Devils couldn't extend a scholarship offer on the visit. So he verbally pledged to play at Louisiana Tech as a safe guard.

"They know if they offer I'll commit on the spot," Brown told TDD following his visit. "I've told Coach Yano that's the deal, and he's being honest with me. My parents are and I both hope it's Duke."

They got their wish on Monday night when assistant coach Yanowski phoned Brown and let him know there was finally room on the Duke bandwagon for the 5'11, 220lbs Texas linebacker.

"I'm just thrilled to be a Blue Devil," said Brown. "This is where I was meant to be."
