2006 LB: Matt Woodlief

Updating one of the in-state standouts in the class of 2006, Matt Woodlief. The 5'10, 230lbs linebacker is hopeful to get some contact from Duke.

Over the past three years, Catawba (N.C.) Bandys has had the luxury of surprising opposing offenses with one of the Tar Heel State's best kept defensive secrets in game-dominating linebacker Matt Woodlief.

This season, however, amid the recruiting coverage and college interest, opponents will be more than aware of Woodlief and what the 5-foot-10, 230-pounder can do on the field.

"I receive stuff mostly from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, UNC, Tennessee, ECU, and I sent highlight tape to Duke University," stated Woodlief. "Those six colleges are looking at me the most right now."

Although still early, Woodlief has his eyes focused on two schools at this time.

"I like Wake Forest and Virginia Tech," remarked Woodlief. "Wake, I like their student life and their football program I love it and their coaches I love them; they're nice people. They just have a great program. Virginia Tech is the same way. They have a great campus, and the student life is also nice."

With Woodlief patrolling from sideline-to-sideline the past three seasons, Bandys High School has reached the 2A State Championship game twice and semi-finals once. Last season Woodlief continued to increase his season defensive stats with 151 tackles and eight sacks.
