Scheyer Enjoyed Duke Visit

While Duke was inching closer to victory against Wake Forest this weekend in Cameron, they were also inching closer to a recruiting victory on a national level as one of 2006's five star prospects was enjoying himself behind the bench and looking awfully comfortable in his surroundings. TDD caught up with Jon Scheyer on Tuesday to discuss his trip.

For Jon Scheyer, it was worth the trip.

The 6-5 1/2, 170-pound Glenbrook North (Ill.) junior wants to focus everything around a state title run, but he wanted to see the environment at Duke during a basketball game.

So he and his family made the trip for this past weekend's victory against Wake Forest.

``I had a great time," Scheyer said. "It was a good experience and the environment was really great. I hadn't gotten a chance to experience what Duke basketball is all about until I went to the game. It was one of the most emotional games for Coach K, so it was a lot of fun."

``It couldn't have been more perfect going to see the game and also spend time with the coaches and the players."

That would lead many to believe it's only a matter of time before Scheyer chooses the Blue Devils, but he still wants to take visits to Illinois and Arizona before trying to make a decision by the end of April. Wisconsin is also in the mix, but according to sources close to the situation, they are a distant fourth.

``I want to finish the season and then I'll sit down and then look at the best situation for me," Scheyer said. "Right now my focus is on winning a state championship."

Scheyer scored 30 points and 5 assists in his most recent game, a 77-58 win against Maine West that clinched the school's fourth consecutive division crown. Scheyer is averaging 24.5 points, 5 boards and 5 assists this season as the team is 23-2 and has one game remaining before the playoffs begin.

``I think we definitely have enough to win the state title," said Scheyer, who would need to win eight consecutive games to win the state crown. "We have all the pieces and we're peaking at the right time."
