Devils In the Hunt for FL OL

One of Florida's best offensive lineman made the trip to Durham over the weekend for Duke's annual junior day.

Offensive lineman Sam Young of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., reports offers from Florida, Penn State, Michigan, Miami, Alabama, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Ole Miss, LSU and Boston College. "I don't really have any favorites right now," he said. "I grew up liking Michigan, Penn State and Miami, but this is going to be a family decision getting it down to my top-five. We'll all decide on a top-five and then I'll make the final choice."

The 6-foot-7. 290-pound Young is strictly set for the offense. He plays tackle for the Raiders, which is his desired position in college. "I don't play defense," he said.

After narrowing down his list to a top-five, Young said he would like to take all of his visits before deciding. "If at any time I feel I'm in the right place, I could decide earlier," he said.

Young said he attended camps last year at Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State and while he didn't go to any Nike Camps, he did attend the Down and Dirty lineman camp in Tampa. "Basically it's just a bunch of lineman bashing heads," he said. "But it was fun. I just got back from Duke and North Carolina, and I'll go to the Junior Day at Florida."

Young reports a max bench-press of 365-pounds and a max squat of 425-430. He said he has a 3.5 grade-point-average and would like to major in business.
