Devils in Top Five For GA OL

Georgia OL Matt Long has the Blue Devils behind UGa early on.

Matt Long is one of the better OL prospects available in the Peach State for the class of '06. What schools comprise his early list?

"Georgia is definitely number one. If I get any chance to go there, I will say yes right away. Auburn is a fairly close second. I have more letters from them than anyone else. I'm also looking at Duke and Boston College who are sending me a bunch of stuff. Clemson and LSU are mailing me a lot also. I want to stay in the in the ACC or SEC if I can," Matt Long said.

Why are the Dawgs on top?

"I have so many alumni in my family from there. My brother is there now, my sister graduated from there and it seems like every aunt and uncle I have went there. We have season tickets to their football games and it's close to home."

Why did he mention the other schools on his list?

Auburn: "That's another close school. Around here you either like Georgia or you like Auburn. A lot of my teachers like Auburn and they have an amazing offensive line coach in Coach Nall. Their line was amazing last year."

Duke: "It's a great academic school and you could get a really great education while you play football. I know my parents are really pushing academics."

Boston College: "They've sent me some things about accomplishments of their players and they have a lot of guys who have gone on to the next level. That's really interesting to me. I met the recruiting coordinator and I like him a lot. They send me some handwritten stuff."

Clemson: "I don't know much about them but they seem pretty interesting. I want to check them out."

LSU: "Like Clemson I don't know much yet, but they seem really interested. If a school is interested, I'm going to try to visit there."

What is he looking for most in a school?

"I'm looking at education and I'd prefer to stay close to home so my parents can come and see me."

Long has been conversing with the top two programs on his list.

"I've talked to the Georgia and the Auburn coaches on the phone a little bit. They seem really interested in me now. I got invited to come and watch practice at Auburn on March 19th and I've also been invited to visit Georgia on April 2nd to see the campus and have lunch in the sky suites."

Matt has had a successful beginning to the track season.

"I throw the discuss and shot put. Today I had a meet and I placed first in the shot put. I finished second in the discuss but I didn't throw well at all."
