Duke in Top Seven For Lineman

The recruiting connection with one of Florida's top football programs is paying off

Sam Young and Marcus Gilbert are the twin towers at offensive tackle for St. Thomas Acquinas, but center Daniel Wenger is the glue that holds the line together in the middle. Wenger has picked up an impressive list of offers already.

"I've gotten offers from Duke, Rutgers, Iowa State, and Northwestern," said Wenger. "Boston College said they were going to offer this week, and Miami said they were about to offer too."

Wenger was scheduled to attend the Florida Junior Day last weekend, but he wasn't able to make it.

"It conflicted with my work out schedule right now. I'm on a four day workout schedule right now. I've been working out with 275 on the bench and reps of 365 on the squat. I haven't maxed out on either in a long time."

The South Florida has several good options in front of him already, and more are sure to come. What teams have gotten his attention early in the process?

"I don't really have a favorite yet, but if I had to name some of the teams I'm looking at the most I guess they would be Notre Dame, Boston College, Duke, Penn State, Purdue, and Nebraska."

With a lack of in state schools on his list, is it certain that Wenger is leaving the state?

"I'm kind of looking to leave the state. I've been down here most of my life and could use a change."

Wenger and his St. Thomas Acquinas team have a very clear goal this year after finishing runner-up in the State Playoffs last year.

"For the team, our goal is to get back to State and hopefully win it this year. I think we have a good chance if we keep our head on straight. For me, I just want to keep working hard and try and get better every day. I'm thankful for the offers I've gotten already, and I hope I can earn more."
